Motion test to go with the previous post…
NMP
This was just an idea I had kicking around my head after looking back at research I’d conducted when we were set this brief. The research I looked at was on more bold, simple vector illustrations, which had fairly simple transitions. I think I’m almost there with my final idea, so I just wanted to have a go at this first. I knew it would end up looking like something you’d...

Another experiment of one of my ideas. Although incredibly rough, I do quite like this. The idea here is that I would make my own bits of design, based on key parts of the story, then film it so each part would match up to the story. Here the key parts are sitting in a pub (so shown a simple beer mat - does he say Burmese or Bernese?!) and jet lag (plane ticket). Might be nice to set this one...

Another failed experiment here. This video was more a gut reaction to the brief & the idea to use some sort of infographics informed imagery (i.e really simple). Basically just gone over the scene & picked out some key movements from Lois. As you can see, it matches the dialogue in parts, but other than that, nothing really happens in this.
It’s led me however to research more...

Some failed experiments on these next posts. After my initial idea to do some sort of photomontage video (based on the photographs I got from my last meeting at Soup) I realised I didn’t actually have a wealth of photographs to do this with. To compensate for this, I just used some footage of D&L & took random screenshots from it. I then put these together over the original...
Turing
An improved version of the previous video. The light works much better to highlight which characters are going to be de-coded next. Tried to keep it fairly simple so that it can easily be remixed at the actual event. The pieces I have come out with for this brief have been really abstract, which is not what I’m used to doing. Usually most of my motion work has a strong narrative...
Turing
Been getting this wrapped up the last few days; to submit I’ve got my Turing alphabet, the initial motion experiments & this longer piece of motion. For this longer piece, I’ve taken inspiration from the bombe machine - the characters turn like the parts within the machine & reveal the coded sentence. Shown here is an initial attempt at this. It’s far too slow for...
Roses...
I’ll admit, I only did a flying visit to the Roses & I left a little disappointed, just like the year before. Firstly, as much as I love the mill, I just didn’t think the gallery room was big enough for the work. Last year it was great to have big groups of people around each entry discussing them. This year, it was difficult to get to see the work really & it was hard to stand...
Turing
Quick experiment I’ve just been working on this morning in the Turing session. Done a few more experiments along the same lines of what I’ve posted up before, so that they’re easier for people to just take & re-mix. But this is a little different. I’ve been working on something longer that partially reveals the code for my alphabet. This is a first attempt,...
Magic Arm - Put Your Collar Up →
Video for the live brief I’ve been working on for the past few months is finally up. It’s the first time I’ve seen it in full HD, really pleased with how it’s turned out! Client’s happy, job done!
Here’s one of the tests I had a quick go of myself yesterday. Some of the dots are lost in the black background, but I kind of like it. Using a light manages to pick some up some of them though & it looks quite beautiful when it overlaps on to the lighter dots. I could go on forever with these tests!
Turing
Quick little video I’ve been experimenting with for the Turing brief. The only trouble with the effect I’ve applied is it shatters each character into small triangles rather than dispersing each individual dot. I suppose you can’t really see the difference on a small scale, but it’ll be more obvious on a bigger scale. I still think it works rather well &...
